Earth Strata

The Earth we are living on is composed of many layers – strata – of soil, sand, mud, sediment, shell fragments and rock debris which are accumulated through the movement of the elements (like water, air, fire) and living organisms. The layers differ is colour, texture, thickness and chemical composition. By analysing the layers of Earth scientists are able to tell a story about the centuries of life that has evolved on a particular place. Earth strata are a link to the history of the place – a direct connection to our origin.

In our modern high-paced life we often feel restless and sometimes rootless. Connecting to the Earth through a mindful practice of sitting, giving the sitting bones some soft but resilient support, treating the eyes to warm natural colours can re-kindle the sense of belonging and ground us deeper in our place in this world.

It is great to sit on the floor and feel connected to the ground while meditating, breathing or going through yoga asanas. Sitting on the floor helps you develop a resilient back and supple hips. To help this process, we use floor cushions, so that hips are lifted a bit higher than the ground. It really makes a difference to the feeling in your back if you place your hips a bit higher than your legs. We have developed a customisable sitting support – cushions which can be stacked to the height you need!

100% wool, repurposed and carefully hand-dyed with natural plant pigments. Wool is a natural environment-friendly material, warm to the touch, has great isolating and fire-retardant properties.
Colours produced by natural dyeing are incredibly soothing for the eye and create a harmonised palette.
